Manual 1: Introduction to Montessori (3–6 Classroom Guide)

This module introduces you to the Montessori method and its uniqueness. It begins with the Life and works of the founder Dr. Maria Montessori and then focuses on her educational philosophy and key component of the Montessori method. Topics ranging from sensitive periods to the preparation of the Montessori environment are all covered in necessary detail in this guidebook. It also serves as a guide to using all the remaining 8 modules in the course.

The following are the main topics covered in this manual.

Manual 2: Montessori Exercises of Practical Life (EPL)

Exercises of practical life (EPL) are those simple daily actions that are normally performed by adults in the environment. These actions are real and are done in real situations. If practical life activities are introduced to children at the right time, we help them do things themselves rather than doing things for them, independence becomes a lifelong personality trait. They don’t just continue doing everyday things for themselves and others but also do it happily.

This manual explores a variety of step-by-step activities ranging from as simple as Pouring Water from a Jug to as complex as Washing a Collection of Dishes. These exercises aim to satisfy the child’s strong urge to do things himself and be a contributing member of the family/society. They promote independence, develop a love for work, add to self-esteem, improve motor skills, inculcate good habits, and contribute to the normalization of the child in general.

Manual 3: Montessori Exercises of Sensorial Development

Senses play a vital role in our lives. They are like our connecting bridges to the environment. They are the only channels through which outside information passes into the mind. Since the child is passing through the age of rapid development and the sensitive period for sensory development, he needs maximum opportunities for sensory interaction with the environment.

This comprehensive manual covers up the entire range of Montessori sensorial exercises with fully colored step-by-step illustrations and pictures in all areas including visual, tactile, olfactory, gustatory, and hearing exercises.

Manual 4: Montessori Language (Manual A)

The Montessori language curriculum follows a multidimensional approach and offers developmentally appropriate activities and materials for all areas of lingual development including phonics, reading, writing, grammar, and oral language in a systematic way.

This manual deals with systematic activities for step-by-step progression in phonics including a comprehensive plan to practice 44 phonic sounds of the English language along with their 144 different alphabetic representations. Further activities lead children through three-lettered phonetic words (pink level), longer phonetic words (blue level), high-frequency words (sight words), phonogramic words (green level), and finally total reading.

Alongside, the use of metal-insets trains the child’s hand for controlling the pencil, and sandpaper letters make him familiar with the correct way of writing the alphabets.

Manual 5: Montessori Mathematical Exercises (Manual A)

This manual focuses on Dr. Montessori’s amazing range of Montessori mathematics materials, which surprise expert mathematicians even today. Materials like number rods, sandpaper numbers, spindle boxes, number cards and counters, etc. teach children counting, identification, and association of quantities and numerals till ten using concrete materials.

The exercises in The Decimal System group (normally done with golden bead material and corresponding number cards) take children to enriched concrete experiences with addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division.

Furthermore, the exercises in The Linear Counting Group enable children to count to a hundred and then one thousand.

Manual 6: Montessori Language (Manual B)

People get surprised by the wondrous lingual and literal achievements that Montessori children make before reaching 6 years of age.

This manual introduces writing, sorting, and grammar exercises of the Montessori language curriculum. Chalkboards and alphabet sorting exercises go hand in hand to further the child’s skill in writing. The function of words introduces the child to forms of speech using concrete symbols. The farmhouse exercises teach the child the proper use of the function of words in phrases and sentences.

Manual 7: Montessori Mathematical Exercises (Manual B)

This manual dives further into advanced Montessori Mathematics activities. Bead chains prepare the child for extensive linear and skip counting, snake games, multiplication bead bars, bead stairs, small number rods, and the stamp-game further child’s previous experiences of four operations in a more abstract way, This manual also contains exercises of Memorization of Tables such as multiplication board, unit division boards, and addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division charts.

Manual 8: Montessori Cultural Exercises 1 – Geography and History Exercises

In a Montessori classroom, experiences in life sciences (botany & zoology), physical sciences, history, geography (man-made and natural), arts, dance, and music are given to the child under the header of cultural exercises. The Montessori cultural studies curriculum provides children with an opportunity to explore the whole world including the continents, countries, people, cultures, terrain, natural phenomena, sciences, and arts.

This manual contains activities with concrete materials to enhance the child’s understanding of the above-mentioned subject areas, to develop his personality, to help him adapt to his own culture, and become an independent, useful member of his society.

Manual 9: Montessori Cultural Exercises 2 – Zoology, Botany and Science Experiments

Children are naturally attracted to all forms of nature including plants and animals during the early years. A strong connection with nature and relevant experiences are essential for their holistic development.

This module contains a series of developmentally appropriate zoology and botany activities along with science experiments.
